Before the restoration, the windows barely opened. They were coated with lead paint, often peeling, and they were very leaky.
We are delighted with how they came out after restoration. They work as well as new windows; they open and shut smoothly, look beautiful and fit tightly. The best part is that they are the original windows so are historically correct for the house and look exactly how they should.

“We found Arch Weathers when we were looking for someone to restore the windows in an old house, probably over 200 years old though no one knows for sure. The sashes were in serious need of restoration, but they are the original windows, with all the charm of that old wiggly glass, and we wanted to keep the look.
Arch made clear to us at the beginning that he was pretty seriously booked up with a big job, but confident that he would get us in before winter set in. I had a business of my own years ago, doing stained glass, so I know how things can get complicated at the artisan’s end of the relationship when there are multiple clients, each with their own concerns to be careful of. And I mean careful as in caring, not as in cautious. I appreciate that he kept me informed as needed, so I didn’t have to wonder when I would hear from him, and he indeed came through in time and everyone is pleased with the job he did for us.
We also had him make custom wooden storm windows, which greatly enhance the energy efficiency and they look really right, from the outside. Friends of ours have remarked on how good it all looks.

“Historic Sashworks LLC has recently completed restoration of twenty two 12 over 12 historic windows at Canaan Union Academy, which houses the Canaan Town Museum. Workmanship, budget, schedule, flexibility, and communication exceeded expectations. There were no surprises, delays, or shortcomings.
The finished project is a substantial benefit to this 1839 building, and numerous panes of historic wavy glass have been preserved for the next century.”
